Public Health is the science of protecting and improving the health of people and the communities where they live, work, and play. This work is carried out by a broad network of public, private, and volunteer partners who help deliver essential public health services throughout the community. Public health can’t succeed in isolation. Strong partnerships and community advocacy are critical to advancing and sustaining effective public health programs.
The American Public Health Association (APHA) observes National Public Health Week annually during the first week of April. Communities across the country pause to recognize public health achievements. In recognition of this week, the Clark County Health Department (CCHD) honors outstanding individuals or organizations with its annual “Friend of Public Health” award, celebrating those who have made meaningful contributions in improving the health of Clark County residents.
This year, the CCHD is proud to recognize Dr. Maryann Forsell, dentist with the Family Health Center-Neillsville, as the 2026 award recipient! Dr. Forsell played a positive and meaningful role in the county as two municipalities evaluated whether to continue community water fluoridation, one of which voted to continue fluoridation.
