Members of the Clark County Law Enforcement and Emergency Management committee voted May 20 to approve the purchase of a WARP safety restraint system for the county jail after officials said an older restraint chair was damaged during a recent incident involving an intoxicated and combative detainee. The approved purchase totals $4,233.24 and includes the restraint system, helmet and transport cart.

A Colby-based business is looking to build a new corporate office in Abbotsford’s western industrial park under a proposed development deal unveiled Monday night. Kelley Supply, which has long had its base of operations in Colby’s industrial park, is interested in building a roughly 10,000-square foot facility on Abbotsford’s Grube Drive, just west of STH 13 on what is now city-owned land.
A more detailed ordinance regarding the ownership of fowl such as chickens, ducks and quail within the city limits was approved at the Colby City Council meeting on Tuesday. Key points in the new ordinance include new allowances for the number of birds allowed on a property, clarification of standards for coops and pens, and the need to register for a permit in order to own poultry within the city limits.

Thanks to a generous $5,000 donation from the Thorp Lions Club, anyone who has a pool pass for the Thorp Aquatic Center this summer is now eligible for free swim lessons. The proceeds from this donation will go towards paying for one of the two available swim lesson sessions offered by lifeguards at Thorp’s municipal pool this summer.
The Thorp Veterans Remembrance Park continues to add new names and Legacy Stones of former and current Thorp veterans. For a third consecutive year the park held a dedication ceremony on Sunday, May 24.

The Stanley Health and Sanitation Committee met Wednesday, May 27 at 5:30 p.m. in city hall, voting to deny appeal of a dangerous dog designation for a dog at 343 East First Avenue. The appeal from resident Jennifer Pahl came after police were called Monday, May 18 at 6:03 p.m. for what was described as a “dog related complaint.”
Soon to welcome the Stanley Truck and Tractor Pull, the west side of the pull track could have permanent bleachers in coming years, following council approval Monday of a proposal by STPR Inc.
