Shawn Ganther, Neillsville artist, painted a mural on the Neillsville Breakfast Club building (former Hardee’s). The mural’s theme is Ganther’s rendition of Vincent Van Gogh’s “The Starry Night.”
At its June 19 meeting, the Clark County Law Enforcement/Emergency Management Committee received a detailed briefing on the county’s public-safety radio infrastructure and a multi-year plan of suggested replacements and upgrades.

Firefighters in the Central Fire & EMS District are likely to see a bump in their pay next year, based on initial discussions by the district board last Thursday. Doing the math, board chairman Larry Oehmichen said approving the raises as proposed would lead to a 6.2 percent increase in how much each of the seven municipalities would have to pay for fire protection in 2027. Because each municipality pays a different share of the budget based on their property values, the dollar increase would vary between roughly $2,500 and $5,000.

There’s an oft-repeated joke that Wisconsin has just two seasons—winter and construction. The city of Thorp’s multi-million dollar street project got underway on June 8 and will occur on West School Street from its intersection with North Lincoln Street to the intersection with North Washington Street (STH 73), East School Street from its intersection with North Washington Street, North Thorp Street from its intersection with East Stanley Street to its intersection with East Main Street and North Clark Street from its intersection with East Stanley Street to its intersection with East School Street. Construction is expected to be completed by September.

The Stanley-Boyd Area Schools Board of Education held a special meeting Monday, June 15 in the high school library, voting to approve the purchase of a lot for construction of a new building for Open Doors Academy. Open Doors Academy provides an opportunity for students who might not otherwise graduate the chance to do so.
A Stanley man has been convicted and sentenced to three years in prison in connection with a sexual assault in 2024. Chippewa County court records for Phillip A. Jordan, 56, show an initial ‘not guilty’ plea entered by Jordan’s attorney in December 2025, followed by a plea deal reached in March 2026.
