As of last week, 11 new students had enrolled in Abbotsford Middle and Senior High Schools, bringing the total number of families being served by the two schools up to 290, according to principal Melissa Pilgrim.
One of the most recent grants the Colby School District was awarded focuses on assisting homeless students. High school principal Steven Wozniak, who headed the process, presented the board with details of the grant, which will be for $25,000 over the next three years.

The Thorp Cardinal Athletic Booster Club is a nonprofit organization with a mission to enhance opportunities for Thorp High School athletes by providing equipment, facility improvements and resources that go beyond the school district’s budget. Their newest project will benefit the entire Thorp community. The club’s next major undertaking is the complete renovation of the Northside Park baseball diamond.
Th greatest test of any runner is to complete a marathon. Most runners aspire to finish just one marathon in their lives, but Jacob Barth is not most runners. A Thorp native, Barth has set an audacious goal of completing 50 marathons in 50 states before he turns 50 years old.

Acting at the August 17 regular council meeting, the Stanley Common Council officially voted to abolish the City Administrator-Clerk/Treasurer position after a roughly six-year run in city government.
The Stanley-Boyd Area School Board got a look at the new main entrance on Monday, August 17, while also approving plans for a new building for Open Doors at North Broadway.
