During the January 14th board meeting, Village President Randy Madlon addressed concerns about rising taxes for residents. “Our taxes for the Village have increased substantially,” he remarked, noting that much of the increase stemmed from the Gilman Public School district. Madlon explained that he reached out to a school board member for clarification and learned that the increase was due to the passing of last year’s school referendum, which began to take effect this year.
“He forewarned me that going into this year 2025 they’re probably gonna end up using a little more yet,” added Madlon.
He reassured residents that the tax hike was not a result of increases from the County or the Village of Lublin but was instead tied to the school district's assessment. “If you look at your tax roll it’s because of the school assessment on there of what was sent for our taxes,” he said.
Despite understanding the situation, Madlon expressed frustration as a resident himself. “As a resident, I’m not real pleased,” he concluded.
The Village of Lublin held its caucus immediately following the Tuesday evening board meeting. Village Clerk Rita Niznik was selected as the caucus chairperson and began the proceedings by reading the meeting rules to the attendees. For the position of Village President, current President Randy Madlon was nominated alongside Lublin resident Todd Benkowski. Three individuals were nominated for the two available trustee positions: Christine Compagnone, Christine Nowak, and Richard Pulcher. Fr. Hermann Klarr, who currently holds a trustee position, was also nominated by Clerk Niznik but respectfully declined the nomination. The elected candidates will serve a two-year term beginning April 14th, following the election on April 1st. The next Village of Lublin board meeting will be held February 6th at 6 p.m.
