Warren and Mary Dona German celebrated 70 years of wedded bliss

Posted

Warren and Mary Dona German celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Saturday, August 8 at Meadowview Golf Course in Owen, joined by more than 100 family members and friends who gathered to honor their remarkable milestone.

The couple was married on Wednesday, August 1, 1956, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Wuertzburg, where a 9 a.m. nuptial mass was delivered by Reverend Father Burggraf. Their marriage began with faith at its center, a foundation that would guide them through seven decades of life together.

After their wedding, Warren and Mary Dona lived in several places near Colby before purchasing a farm between Curtiss and Owen. With a down payment secured and determination in their hearts, they went to work building a farmstead that would become their home for the next 50 years. On that farm, they raised six children: Terry German (Owen); Kathy German‑Olson (Allan Olson, Chippewa Falls); Patricia German (Chippewa Falls); Sheila (Ron) Konieczny (Tomah); Tim (Oriela) German (Owen); and Carla German (Glencoe, MN).

Their family grew to include 10 grandchildren and 10 great‑grandchildren, each one a blessing they cherished deeply.

Over the years, Warren and Mary Dona experienced life’s inevitable ups and downs, yet they always moved forward together. They passed on values they believed mattered most: a strong faith in God, honesty, and hard work—principles that shaped their family and the legacy they continue to build.

When asked about the secret to a long marriage, they agreed that it comes down to a good‑natured and fair disposition, and the willingness to talk through disagreements so that understanding and respect can grow.

As their family gathered to celebrate 70 years of love, commitment, and shared purpose, it was clear that Warren and Mary Dona’s story is more than a marriage—it is a testament to what two people can build when they choose each other every day. Their lives stand as an example of devotion, resilience, and the quiet strength of partnership.

Surrounded by generations who exist because of the life they built together, Warren and Mary Dona’s anniversary was not just a celebration of the past, but a reminder of the enduring power of love that continues to guide their family forward.
