WisDOT seeking public input on Clark County bridge project

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is seeking public comment on a proposed improvement project replacing the bridge that carries WIS 98 over Bear Creek in the Clark County city of Loyal.

The public is encouraged to visit the project website, review a handout, maps and other information. Comments are being accepted through February 24 by:

  • Email: jsaxby@sehinc.com
  • Mail: Wisconsin Department of Transportation, 718 W. Clairemont Ave., Eau Claire, WI 54701, Attn.: Christena O’Brien

Built in 1920, the bridge is nearing the end of its surface life. WisDOT is proposing to:

  • Remove the existing bridge.
  • Construct a new single-span concrete girder bridge with sidewalks from WIS 98/County K to the east end of the bridge.
  • Reconstruct approach pavement on both sides of the structure to accommodate drainage and provide a smooth ride onto the new bridge.
  • Remove existing guardrail.

Construction currently is scheduled for 2027.

During construction, WIS 98 will be closed, and through traffic will be detoured via WIS 73, County H and County Y.
