I have never sat and watched an entire "show" of one of the online "podcast" personalities before. But I do notice a number of clips from them, and sometimes they are worth the minute or two to watch. Sometimes what they bring up leads me to a new source of facts that I hadn't had before or knew existed before. And sometimes they say things that just make me stop and question reality a little bit.
In a clip from The Joe Rogan Experience, guest Wesley Hunt was explaining something regarding politics. Now, I could care less about the "politics" part. But what Mr. Hunt shared got my attention. He shared it like this: "People ask me 'How could you?' Wrong. Let me just stop you right there. It's the wrong question to ask anybody. The question is 'why are you' or 'why do you?' Either you're seeking to condemn or you're seeking to understand. If you're seeking to understand, you're asking the question why, because to learn something. If you're asking the question 'how do you' or 'how could you,' you've already made your mind up."
This bit of what Mr. Hunt shared really strikes me as incredibly wise for a number of reasons. First and foremost, it sets a new path for discussion that's far less stressful. Second, it bypasses distaste and opens the door for meaningful discussion. And finally, it sets the field for a constructive discussion instead of a battle. With how crazy things have become the last few years, I find that less stress and more constructive discussion is something we're sorely in need of. And in great quantities! I guess it'll be like anything else, though...Before I expect to see it elsewhere, I'll have to be certain to adopt this myself, and lead by example.
