The “Weekend Owen-Withee (W-O-W) Kids’ Meals” received a substantial donation from Aspirus Health, and administered through the Clark County Health Department, in the amount of $2,500. This donation will provide food for several weeks to food insecure families in the Owen-Withee school system.
W-O-W Kids’ Meals began to distribute food to eligible students Pre-K – 6th grade during the second semester of the 2013-2014 school year. Currently, 36 bags are filled every other week and distributed. If there are extra bags some students may receive a bag every week. We also maintain a mini-pantry for use by any student in the junior/senior high, and encourage any student experiencing food insecurity in that age group to speak with Morgan Mueller, Deisy Gonzalez Herrera, Julie Van Ark, Kristi Ruggles or Stephanie Ihlenfeldt.
Cathy Laube is the Kids’ Meals Food Ordering Specialist and does an impressive job of making sure that our students are getting a balanced diet. Food is purchased from Feed My People (FMP) in Eau Claire.
The W-O-W committee is also always seeking new members, as well as new groups or organizations that would be willing to take a time slot filling bags or moving food from the lobby of Holy Rosary into our store rooms in the old convent. Most of the time our work is completed in about an hour. If you would be interested in serving on our Steering Committee or volunteering to take a turn filling bags or moving food please contact: Noel Barteck 715-229-2694 or cell 715-965-8225, Lyle Roe 715-613-3153 or Ruth Thompson 715-773-0220.
