To celebrate our city’s lumbering history in the month of Owen’s 100th anniversary, the Owen Public Library has invited Chad Lewis to present on Lumberjack Legends and Lore. Please join us on Friday, April 25, at 7:00 p.m. for this free event. Chad Lewis is a historian, paranormal researcher, and author of Lumberjack Creatures of the Northwoods, Wisconsin Guide to Haunted Places, Hidden Headlines of Wisconsin, and Wisconsin Road Guide to Gangster Hot Spots. You’ll hear facts about how the lumberjacks lived and worked in Wisconsin, stories they told each other, and legends of the beasts once said to roam the northern forests.
While you’re at the library, be sure to appreciate the new LED lighting installed by our city maintenance crew. Another welcome update to our library is the addition of automatic door openers through funding from the “Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities” grant, awarded by the American Library Association. Library trustees and staff want everyone to feel welcome in our building, and we hope the automatic door openers will allow more people to pass through our doors.
Please join us for this event and remember that more Centennial events, including tree planting, the opening of the 75-year celebration’s time capsule, cake and ice cream and more, will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Mill Pond Park on April 26.
