85 Years Ago – June 29, 1939

Machines were recently overhauled and a change at the Master Package Corporation enabling them to make a new product known as “The Master Fibre Barrel,” which will undoubtedly develop to be a product that will create a demand for itself.

E.W. Sutter leaves Sunday for Eau Claire, where he has secured a year around position with the National Pressure Cooker Company as a pattern maker. He expects to move his family to Eau Claire this fall.

75 Years Ago – June 30, 1949

A woman inmate of the Clark County Hospital Farm suffered serious injury Friday when her hair wound around a turning shaft, completely ripping off her scalp and a third of an ear.

65 Years Ago – June 25, 1959

A new 30x40 foot cement block building was recently completed by the Badger Valve Rebuilding Company, Withee. A.C. Little, owner and founder of the firm which rebuilds stainless steel valves used in dairies, breweries, etc., first started the concern in July of 1955 with a two-stall garage being it’s first home.

55 Years Ago – June 26, 1969

Robert Hodd, owner of the Abby Theatre is building a new drive-in theatre near his home on Highway 13 between Abbotsford and Colby.

Tuesday workmen began laying forms for the footings and floor of the new City of Owen Fire Hall which will be built on the site at the intersection of County Trunk X and Linden Street, in the Third Ward. The structure will be of steel with a bricked front and measuring 40x102 feet. The building is expected to be ready for occupancy by mid-September.

45 Years Ago – June 27, 1979

On Monday, July 2, Pogo’s Café will become known as “Geri’s Café.” Geri Lindgren has purchased the café from Frank and Connie Pogodzinski, who have owned and operated this daily restaurant in Owen, and will go out of business after three and a half years on June 29.

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. C. Kangas of Owen, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, June 17. Rev. Lloyd Yaggie of Nazareth Lutheran Church presented the couple with a beautiful plaque given to them by the congregation.

35 Years Ago – June 29, 1989

Dr. Wendy Gruenberg has joined the staff of the Dairyland Animal Clinic to fill the opening for a new vet. This is her first job since graduation.

Sheila Rohland and Kevin Ziesemer exchanged marriage vows at 1:30 p.m. June 10 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Owen. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Albert Rohland, Rt. 2, Curtiss, and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Ziesemer of Neenah.

25 Years Ago – June 30, 1999

Jennifer Lambright and Darren Ovyn exchanged marriage vows on May 28, 1999 at the New Harvest Assembly of God Church in Withee.

15 Years Ago – July 1, 2009

Mavis Kovala of Owen is the Ashland M&I Bank Artist of the Month for June. Kovala’s artwork was on display in M&I Bank’s Ashland lobby throughout June.
