In a show of support to the residents of the city of Loyal folllowing the September 12 fire that destroyed three buildings, including the city’s fitness center, the Greenwood School Board unanimously voted to allow any residents of the Loyal School District the ability to use the Greenwood fitness center facilities at the same rate as Greenwood residents through the end of 2025.

Abbotsford is one of four school districts in Wisconsin targeted by a federal civil rights complaint filed Tuesday by two groups advocating for transgender and nonbinary students and school staff. Fair Wisconsin and GSAFE, two statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organizations, announced in a press release that they have filed complaints with the Office of Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education for actions taken by the school board that allegedly “foster a hostile environment in violation of Title IX.”

Curtiss residents can expect to pay more for sewer services starting next year, as village board members prepare to pay back debts for ongoing wastewater upgrades. At an October 2 meeting, DPW Larry Swarr presented the board with a trio of options for increasing sewer rates in order to cover the long-term borrowing costs for phosphorus treatment and upgrades to the sewer plant.

The city of Thorp continues to add small businesses to its streets and on Tuesday, October 1, representatives from the city of Thorp, Thorp Chamber of Commerce and Clark County Economic Development and Tourism Bureau held a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Kirk Law Office, LLC. Thorp’s newest business is located on 102 East Main Street, and is owned and operated by Johanna R. Kirk. Kirk is a native to the area, growing up in the village of Lublin and graduating from Gilman High School in 1996.

The Stanley City Council approved the hiring of Boyd Fire Chief Ron Patten as Stanley Fire Chief and Medical Service Director through January 1, 2027, at the October 7 council meeting.

The D.R. Moon Memorial Library’s plan to expand and renovate received a giant boost Monday, October 7 when the library was included by Governor Evers in $115 million worth of grants, made possible via the Department of Administration’s Flexible Facilities Program and funded through the U.S. Department of the Treasury Capital Projects Fund as part of the American Rescue Plan Act passed under President Biden. The D.R. Moon Memorial Library’s share of the above grant total is $4,137,056, allowing for library construction to start in spring 2025 and finish in summer 2026.
