The Owen-Withee-Curtiss Fire Department was dispatched to the Abbyland storage facility on 5th Street in Owen at 12:15 a.m. Friday, April 4. The building was found to be on fire, with the one person in the building when fire broke out making it out safely.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it started in the office area. The building is believed to be structurally sound with only surface charring to the trusses, but the interior of the building is a total loss.
Over 80,000 gallons of water were used to fight the blaze, setting off alarms for both the Owen Water Tower and their water reservoir. Crews were on scene until about 5:30 a.m.
Additional help was received from the Loyal Fire Department, Greenwood Fire Department, Thorp Fire Department, Central Fire & EMS, Owen-Withee Police Department, Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Xcel Energy, CN Railroad, and Ovyn Trucking.
