A Hastings man was charged by summons in Dakota County Court on Aug. 4 with pointing a gun at another driver in an apparent road rage incident.
Erik Michael Lundsted, 45, was charged with a felony count of threats of violence (intent to terrorize) which carries a sentence of up to five years in jail and a fine between $3,000-$10,000 if convicted.
According to the complaint, on May 12 a Dakota County Sheriff’s Office deputy received a report of a gun pointing incident that occurred in Marshan Township. The victim told the deputy that he was following a vehicle that had been tailgating in in Hastings while driving toward Hwy. 316. The two vehicles had passed each other, and when the victim pulled his vehicle to the intersection of Hwy. 316 and Nicolai Avenue to turn left, Lundsted’s vehicle pulled alongside him “and the driver pointed a black firearm out the window toward him,” the complaint states. The victim followed Lundsted’s vehicle until losing sight of it.
An hour later, Lundsted’s vehicle was pulled over by the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office. A search of the vehicle turned up an unloaded Glock 45 pistol in the center counsel alongside a magazine loaded with 9 9mm rounds. A records check showed Lundsted was the registered owner of the pistol.
