Amy Dahms is the new middle/high school principal at Owen-Withee, having begun her duties on July 1.
Dahms grew up in Antigo. She is married with two teenage daughters and two dogs. They currently are living in Eau Claire.
She got her education degree from UW-Eau Claire. Dahms got her first teaching experience at the catholic school in Antigo and later moved to the public school. She served as Dean of Students there as well as in other administrative roles. Dahms is certified to teach grades 1-8 for all subjects and grades 1-9 for math.
The idea for her to choose teaching as a profession happened almost by accident. After taking a career skills test, she was encouraged by her guidance counselor who said she could be a teacher.
Most recently, Dahms served as the Curriculum Director at Altoona but said she missed supporting students and staff. She was seeking a place where she could use her strengths. She likes to feel like she is making a difference on a daily basis. Dahms already feels a sense of belonging in Owen-Withee as she is working with staff committed to the community.
Dahms said that the school is the heartbeat of the community and she will work hard to make sure that Owen-Withee students are successful in whatever future path they choose. She believes in having high expectations for students and that one never stops learning, no matter their age.
In her free time, she likes spending time with her family, especially in the outdoors. Dahm also said she likes to read and enjoys cooking and baking.
When you see her around the community or at school events, take a moment to welcome Amy Dahms to the O-W community.
