Not unlike several other local school districts, the Greenwood School District has a large percentage of low-income families that could benefit from not having to worry about the added expense of school meals. However, the school district has determined it is not financially feasible to provide free meals to all students on its own, so it’s asking for community donations to offset the cost of the program.

Police Chief Alex Bowman presented newly appointed detective Christian LeMay with a plaque and a new badge after LeMay was approved by the Colby-Abbotsford Police Department board for his new position as detective at their meeting on Monday.

Thorp’s City Council approved a motion during its monthly meeting on Monday, August 12 that adds additional penalties to its preexisting lawn maintenance ordinance for property owners who fail to maintain proper lawn length. The newly approved motion adds a fee schedule on lawn mowing for negligent properties, which includes any residential and commercial property within city limits.

Recently at the local DNR appreciation get-together for central Wisconsin, at Dorchester, Bernie Stuttgen was presented with a Henry Rifle for his 50 years of volunteering as a Hunter Safety Instructor.

The Town of Thorp is considering closing its roads to ATV use due to damage from ATV drivers.

Site work began on Monday, August 12, for a new town hall at W10507 Center Road in the Town of Thorp.

The conference room at the Stanley Fire Station had more visitors than normal as Boyd/Edson/Delmar Fire Chief Ron Patten began the Stanley Fire Department meeting on Monday, August 12. Andrew Kopel motioned for Kenny Hagenson to be the Stanley Fire Chief and it was seconded by Jacob Caroll at the agreement of the rest of the fire department with Jody Halterman and Mike Fazendin abstaining. Ron Patten finalized the voting process for Kenny Hagenson to be recommended as Stanley Fire Chief by the Stanley Fire Department to the city council.

Former Water Operator Don Goettl was hired as the new Water Consultant by the City Council on Monday night, August 5, as the Council unanimously approved the decision requested by current Water Operator Dan Demske.
