The Neillsville Common Council met June 11. Council member Julie Counsell asked the minutes be changed regarding the discussion of the vibrant spaces grant to reflect what had been reported in (The Clark County) Press in its June 5 issue. Counsell’s reason for the change was the minutes stated her reason for voting against the appropriation of the funds was that the trailhead went through her “property,” while the Press reported she had said it went through her “ward,” and she stated the latter was her correct wording.

A long awaited event provided closure, appreciation and honor to many area veterans and their families in Dorchester on Saturday. The newly-dedicated Dorchester Veterans Memorial was unveiled in front of an estimated 500 spectators on Saturday in Dorchester Park.

The Thorp Courier

The Thorp Veterans Remembrance Park is preparing for its upcoming Dedication Ceremony and is one step closer to completion. On Wednesday, June 12 employees from Stone Services of Chippewa Falls set the remaining six benches on the grounds of the Thorp Veterans Remembrance Park, along with slant markers by each of the flags. Once this process was complete members of the Veterans Park Committee placed 40 additional Legacy Stones throughout the site.

Each year items such as socks, deodorant, shampoo, soap, wash cloths, dental items, games, snacks, even laundry soap and much more are boxed up and taken to the Kline Center in Chippewa Falls. The (Thorp Legion) Auxiliary members also bake eight dozen cookies each month to give them.

Taking the stage at the Stanley Theatre Thursday, June 13, Miss Stanley 2024 and her court after being announced by Nikki Witte. With Caroline Johnson named as Miss Stanley 2024, Little Miss Ryea Witt, Little Princess Briella Pelekaudas, Jr. Princess Lilliana Gomz, Jr. Miss Khloe Moore, First Princess Emily Kletsch, and Second Princess Betty Pelekaudas.

Justin and Kristen Pope have opened their automotive repair shop at 219 East Avenue in Stanley.

The Department of Workforce Development’s Mobile Career Lab will be available at the D.R. Moon Memorial Library on Tuesday, June 25 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The services provided by the career lab will include one on one assistance with searching for jobs, online job applications, resumes, career options, and much more. Starting on June 25, the Mobile Career Lab can be found at the D.R. Moon Memorial Library on the last Tuesday of every month through November.
