After almost three years of meetings to plan for Owen’s Centennial and carry out events, the Owen Centennial Committee held their final meeting on Wednesday, January 28.
Everyone on the committee felt that for the most part planned activities had gone well, although there were a few issues with getting the book done.
With money still left in the checking account, decisions were made on how to spend those funds in ways that would benefit the community. Fifteen new Christmas decorations have been ordered at a cost of $5,531. It was also decided to give $1,000 to the Owen Public Library, primarily for programming. When the account is finally closed, any remaining funds will be split between the Bike Trail Project and Playground Equipment for Mill Pond Park.
There are still books and shirts available for purchase. For books, contact Scott Jalling, Cindy Cardinal, or just stop in at Owen City Hall. The shirts that are left are in a rainbow of colors and are all size XL. Contact Cindy Cardinal if interested in a shirt.
Mayor and Committee Chair Scott Jalling was given the authority to deal with closing out the account when all funds are paid out. It will remain open for another month or so. After that the committee would like to see it renamed as a savings account for the purchase/replacement of Christmas Decorations with money from the purchase of any remaining books put into that account after the committee is done selling books.
