The Golden Blackhawk Award is the highest recognition bestowed by the Owen-Withee Area Historical Society. Recipient Introduction: Noel Barteck
Noel Barteck was nominated for the 2026 Golden Blackhawk Award by Art and Jane Petersen, with heartfelt support from his sons Bob and John Barteck. Their nomination reflects Noel’s profound and positive influence on countless lives and his enduring legacy of service.
Career Highlights and Background
A native of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Noel earned his college degree in chemistry from Naperville College in Illinois. He and his family have called Owen home since 1967. Noel devoted his career to education, serving as a long-long science teacher in the Owen-Withee School District, where he inspired generations of students to pursue knowledge and personal growth.
Beyond the classroom, Noel has been a steadfast guardian of community health and safety. He has served as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), firefighter, fire inspector, and distinguished himself as an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) instructor and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) hunter safety instructor for over 50 years. His commitment to emergency services and public safety has saved lives and helped shape local preparedness for decades.
Community Service and Ongoing Contributions
Noel’s community involvement extends far beyond his professional roles. He is an active leader at the Congregational United Church of Christ, offering guidance and support to all who seek it. He founded the Weekend Owen-Withee (WOW) Kids Meals program, ensuring that local children have access to nutritious food. Noel continues to teach Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid to community members, empowering others to act in times of need.
In his personal life, Noel enjoys gardening, hunting, boating, and crafts, finding joy in creativity and nurturing growth both in his backyard and within the community.
