Results are in for the August 13 partisan primary.

Starting with candidate slots, the numbers show State Assembly District 68 incumbent Karen Hurd facing off against Roger Halls for District 69 this November, while State Assembly District 67 incumbent Rob Summerfield will face Richard Pulcher of Lublin for District 68. The news comes as new legislative maps this spring forced many incumbents to either bow out from office or run for re-election this fall in newly drawn districts.

Breaking down the returns by county, District 69 candidate Karen Hurd carried Clark County against Lori J. Voss, polling 2,442 votes to 1,451 for Voss. In Taylor the contest was closer, with Hurd polling 757 votes to 641 for Voss.  In Chippewa County the returns show Hurd winning 233 votes to 75 for Voss. Voss made her strongest showing in Marathon County, polling 745 votes to 460 for Hurd. The primary outcome leaves Voss with 2,909 votes compared with 3,892 for Hurd.

Set to challenge Hurd this November, District 69 Candidate Roger Halls (Democrat) polled 2,539 votes in the August 13 primary. Of this total, 1,513 votes came from Clark County, 506 from Taylor County, 323 from Marathon County, and 197 from Chippewa County.

Competing for November ballot access as GOP candidate in State Assembly District 68, Rob Summerfield polled 4,528 votes to 2,511 votes for Cliff Taylor.

Of these totals, Summerfield polled 2,405 votes in Chippewa County to 716 for Taylor, with Taylor polling 650 votes in Taylor County to 725 for Summerfield. In Rusk County, Taylor polled 1,145 votes to 1,398 for Summerfield.

District 68 candidate Richard Pulcher (Democrat) polled 2,811 votes. Of this total, 790 votes came from Rusk County, 428 came from Taylor County and 1,593 from Chippewa County.

As to the referendum questions pertaining to the state constitution, 58 percent of voters statewide rejected both questions, effectively countering local favor towards these questions and meaning new language will not be added to the state constitution regarding rules around delegating legislative power and allocation of funds.

As to local returns, Referendum Question 1 polled yes vote margins of 752 in Clark County, 1,139 votes in Taylor County, and 1,211 votes in Marathon County, but losing by 582 votes in Chippewa County.

Referendum Question 2 polled yes vote margins of 920 votes in Clark County, 1,175 votes in Taylor County, 1,410 in Marathon County, losing by 522 votes in Chippewa County.

Closing out primary results with national races, Tom Tiffany ran unopposed to win a place as the GOP candidate for U.S. House District 7 on the fall ballot against Democratic primary winner Kyle Kilbourn, while incumbent Derrick Van Orden ran unopposed to win a place as candidate for U.S. House District 3 this fall against Democratic primary winner Rebecca Cooke.

In the U.S. Senate race, Eric Hovde defeated GOP challengers Charles E. Barman and Rejani Raveendran by several thousand votes each to face incumbent U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin in the November General Election.
