St. Hedwig's hosts Open House

On Saturday, June 6, St. Hedwigs hosted an Open House to show the public their new basement. They held it this year in conjunction with Thorp Dairy Days. The volunteers that are working on restoring the old Catholic Church were told that the floor of the basement needed to be done or the church would collapse in on itself. So this past winter, they had the basement poured and the pillars stabilized. When the basement is completely finished, half of it will become a museum displaying artifacts and memories of St. Hedwig’s. The other half will be a recording studio operated by Darrell Marrier and designed by Michael Cronin. Once that is complete, the volunteers will turn their attention to interior restoration.
This project is the latest in a series of renovations that included new clocks, new roof, and a beautiful new courtyard. The plan is that they will hold concerts at St. Hedwig’s in the future. The next Open House is planned for Thorp’s Pumpkin Fest in the Fall. If anyone would like to volunteer to help out, they can contact Scott and Deb Marrier.
