Thorp Area R/C Club travels to Rice Lake

On Saturday, September 19, the Rice Lake Model Airplane Club hosted their "Fall, Finally!" fun fly event. This is an event for all to come on out, have a good time, and fly whatever you bring along. There were all sorts of planes out there, and the folks were a blast to hang out with. Despite the occasional sprinkles and the high winds, many flights were had.
The orange and white planes are "sport" versions of the classic Piper Cub model, and were flown acrobatically several times. You can see those videos on Facebook, at the Thorp Area RC Club page. They put on quite an enjoyable air show! The large glider took a shot in the winds, and managed to make a few good flights. As the day went on, more people came by. There were attendants young and old, most with something to fly. They even had lunches, which were pizzas done up on the grill!
There was also a "Giant Scale" acrobatic plane brought out to fly. It was put through its aerobatic paces and the pilot put on a great show. It was a lot of fun out there! Everyone was very easy to visit with, and I felt like I could fit right in, despite being the newcomer to the club. I'm looking forward to hitting more events over the coming months, because there are even indoor flying events all winter long. As I'm able to attend more events, I'll be sure to share with all of you AND share on our Facebook page.
