Thorp Class of 2024 bids farewell May 17

Convening in the Thorp High School gym Friday, May 17 at 7:00 p.m., the Thorp Senior Class of 2024 bid farewell to high school, heading out into the wider world.

Entering to “Pomp and Circumstance” by Sir Edward Algar, the 48 graduates made their way into the gym, joining in pairs of two before walking down the center aisle to approach the stage.

The graduates seated, a welcome was given by Brooklyn Carlson, followed by Principal Adrian Foster calling out the Top Ten Percent for recognition, these being Luke Schraufnagel, Carter Tieman, Connor Tieman, Elizabeth Vetterkind, and Denzel Sutton.

With the band playing “Pompeii” by Dan Smith and Tony McCutchen as arranged by Tom Wallace, it was into the valedictorian address by Carter Timan.

“Being a twin is hard,” Tieman said as he addressed his fellow graduates, paying tribute to brother Connor.

Following this the seniors joined the choir to sing “Castle on a Hill” by Ed Sheeran, after which attendees heard from salutatorian Connor Tieman, Carter’s brother.

“There is no substitute for hard work,” Connor told the assembled graduates, family, and friends.

Following the salutatorian address, the gathering heard “Funkytown” as performed by Lucky Chops as well as “I Feel Good” by Jess Greenberg and James Brown, Principal Foster then introduced the Crest award winners, these being Luke Schraufnagel, Connor Tieman, and Carter Tieman.

From there it was on to Choir Arion and National School Choral Award Recipients, with Chloe Egge and Charity Pritchard singing “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus, words and music by Jessica Alexander and Jon Mabe.

From there Jessica Ciolkosz led out the guest speakers, several teachers and superintendent Angie Hanlin all giving their advice to the graduates as they move forward. Ciolkosz left the graduates with three words to remember: faith, family, and friends, each playing their role in the saga of life.

From guest speakers it was into a video presentation of the graduates, contrasting pictures from childhood with senior photos.

Diplomas were presented by Hanlin and the board of education, Principal Foster presented the Class of 2024, seniors then exiting the stage to give class flowers to family and friends. The farewell being given by Abbigail Schultze, it was on to the recessional, with “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedinfield ushering the graduates out into the world, ready to greet the next chapter in their lives with confidence.
