We are hearing a lot these days about election integrity and safe and fair elections. The problem, in some cases, is the definition of election integrity.
The Trump administration is planning to go to court in Alaska if the Republicans lose the election because two people have similar names. I would expect that if the people in Alaska are being inundated by TV ads, phone calls, and mailers like we are here in Wisconsin, they know which box on the ballot represents the person they want to vote for. I don’t think we as taxpayers should have to foot the bill for another frivolous Trump lawsuit.
There have been threats about taking over voting machines and Trump’s “police” being at polling stations. This is more propaganda to make us think our vote doesn’t matter, so why should we bother. Voting machines are safe. Here in Clark County, they don’t connect to the internet, they just count ballots. And it is not necessary to have law enforcement of any type at the polling places. This is not conducive to a fair and impartial election. Voters should not feel threatened for exercising the privilege of casting their ballot.
There is also talk and some of this from the president himself that some people shouldn’t be seated if they win. That isn’t his choice. If the vote is certified by the state, then Congress needs to seat the people elected. Again, if the voters have spoken, let it alone. It doesn’t matter if your candidate got chosen. Elections are a majority rules type of thing.
The other two things that should be noted are elections are under the control of the individual states. The federal government has no say in how they are run. So, President Trump and his DOJ need to stay out of it. Everything in life is not about him and what he wants, although I think we would all find it difficult to convince him of that.
Also, why is there only election fraud when Trump or one of his chosen candidates don’t win? If there is fraud, it goes both ways. For the most part, this is not Daley’s Chicago. Dead people don’t vote. People don’t vote twice. Illegal immigrants don’t vote. At least here in Wisconsin, we have to prove who we are, and that we have the right to vote before we are even handed a ballot. So again, it is a narcissistic little man making a big deal out of nothing to distract us from things like the Epstein files, the war in Iran, and our president handing our country over to Putin.
So, next Tuesday, if you are entitled to vote, make sure you do so. Be an informed voter and know who and what you are voting for. Wednesday morning, some of us will be happy and some disappointed, but that is the nature of elections in the United States of America.
