O-W Book Club
On Saturday, October 19 we will be streaming the author presentations from the Chippewa Valley Book Festival at the Owen City Hall from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Stop by to hear Wisconsin authors speak, chat with book lovers and enjoy refreshments. Featured authors that day will be BJ Hollars (Wisconsin for Kennedy), Mary Bergin (Small-Town Wisconsin), Amy Pease (Northwoods), Joshua Moehling (And There He Kept Her), and Lori M. Lee (Pahua and the Soul Stealer). You can come for any or all of the presentations. Bring a dish to pass and spend the day.
Lunch and Learn
For those 60 years and older, join us for a monthly get-together as we discuss interesting topics or try games and activities. Stay after for a delicious meal (60 and older) provided by the ADRC Nutrition Program. In September we will meet people from the ADRC (Aging & Disability Resource Center) and find out what services they offer. Then, help us brainstorm speakers and activities for future Lunch and Learn Sessions. The ADRC and the Owen Public Library are teaming up to present this program.
Lunch and Learn will be held the 4th Wednesday of every month, starting September 25 at 10:30 at the Owen Community Center (formerly the Senior Center), 112 E. 5th Street, Owen.

As the employment landscape continues to change, workers are being tasked to learn new technologies and skills to stay competitive. Studies show that on average, workers change jobs 12 times in their lifetime. This makes it essential for libraries to offer services that help adults build new skills that align with industry trends and prepare for the shift toward workforce automation.
Major course categories include cloud computing, data science, design, development, finance and accounting, human resources, IT operations, leadership and management, marketing, office productivity, project management and operations, and sales. Personal development classes include photography, drawing, piano, health, exercise and more. To get started or to learn more, please go to gale.udemy.com.
Community Conversation on Friday, September 27, 2024, at 4:00 p.m.
Earlier this year, the Owen Library received a grant to make our library more accessible. As part of the grant, we are required to host a community conversation and receive input from our community. The library staff and trustees would like to know how you think we can make the library more accessible for all. Our grant is specifically written to help people who face physical obstacles in using our library but we are open to ideas about increasing accessibility for all. Please pick up a survey to fill out and return it on or before September 27 to help us get the conversation started.
Trunk or Treat
Believe it or not, October and then Halloween will soon be here. Please watch for more information on Trunk or Treat, coming soon. We would love to have more cars and more volunteers this year. We’ve got a sweet thing going here. Help us keep it up.
The Owen Public Library is open Monday through Friday, 12-6 p.m.
