76th Annual Owen Junior Fair opens Friday, July 12

Coming once again this year to downtown Owen, rides for the 76th annual Owen Junior Fair kick off this Friday, July 12 with Family Night.

Preceded on Thursday, July 11 with a citywide garage sale that runs through Saturday, the Owen Junior Fair will see Tri-State Amusements run the carnival rides this year. The Midway opens Friday at 5 p.m., with wristband night from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Taking place at 5:30 p.m. Friday will be the Blackhawk Wall Mural Dedication at Owen-Withee School, with live music in the form of country, rock, and contemporary offered by the Bennet Valley Gray band from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Not to be left out, bingo sponsored by the Owen-Withee Lions Club will take place in the pavilion from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

This coming Saturday, July 13, Jeffer Scheuer will demonstrate the making of rhubarb leaf garden ornaments in the Old School Gym at 10 a.m., followed with a bluebird presentation at 11:30 a.m. The Gerald Frese Memorial Horse Pull will have weigh-in from 11 a.m. until Noon on Saturday, the Pull itself taking place at 1 p.m.

Come 11:30 a.m., a Kiddie Parade will take place on the bike trail by the Mill Pond, with a magic show by Zoomalata in the dance pavilion following the kiddie parade. Come 7 p.m. live music in the form of outlaw country by the Swamp Rock Band will be offered to fair attendees, along with bingo by the Owen-Withee Lions Club. Midway wristband specials from Tri-State Amusements will be offered for both 1-5 p.m. and 6 -10 p.m., with fireworks taking place at dusk.

Come Sunday, a nondenominational church service will take place at 9:40 a.m. in the pavilion, with music by the Holy Rosary Polka Choir. A Charcoal Chicken Dinner sponsored by the Holy Rosary Knights of Columbus will take place at 11 a.m. until all are served, along with a pie and ice cream social by the Parish Council of Catholic Women.

Also starting at 11 a.m. will be an antique tractor pull.

Coming Sunday at 1 p.m. will be the parade, with an Owen Community photo for next year’s 100th anniversary being taken at 2 p.m. at the Old School. Come be a part of history!

Also taking place after the parade will be music by Phil Kitze, while Dr. Tom Gelhaus will show the Dental Museum.

Tri-State Amusements will have a wristband special from Noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The Hidden Red Slipper winner will be announced at the parade, with bingo sponsored by the Owen-Withee Lions Club Sunday as well.

“Strat Cats” will provide live music from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Come out and enjoy the festival!
