The Hawks lost a road conference game to the Spencer Rockets as they experienced some shooting woes as their defense kept them in the game throughout. They had a chance to win in the end, but came up short 42-41.
Senior Colin Fritz carried the Blackhawks' offense in the first half as his aggressiveness paid off on the free throw line as he hit 7 of 8 along with a pair of threes. Fritz scored 15 points in the half along with a pair of hoops from Sam Wells and Jack Wendler. The Hawks were able to build a 23-16 halftime lead.
Things would not go well for the Hawks in the second half as more Blackhawks would score throughout, but the Rockets continually answered and grabbed the lead late. Another three by Fritz helped us stay close, but in the end the Hawks had some nice shots that just didn't fall as Spencer won 42-41.
The Hawks only shot 27% from the field, even though they finished 10 of 14 (71%) from the line. They out rebounded the Rockets 40-33 and finished with only 8 turnovers.
Box Score: Fritz 19 pts, 9 rebs, 2 asts, 2 stls; Wendler 8 pts, 8 rebs; Wells 7 pts, 4 rebs; Gay 3 pts, 2 rebs; Sherwood 2 pts, 5 rebs, 3 asts; Poehler 2 pts, 6 rebs, 2 asts, 3 stls; Paczkowski 2 rebs; Baehr 6 rebs.
Coach's Comments
We had great shots all night and we just couldn't get them to fall. I was proud of the way the guys kept shooting and their confidence never waivered. We battled all night and gave ourselves a few chances at the end. We will bounce back.
