For the second week in a row the Blackhawks had a short week of practice to accommodate the Thursday night game vs Chippewa Falls McDonell and for the second time in the first four weeks of the season the Hawks found themselves playing the second of the top two ranked teams in the State. It was another great opportunity for the Hawks to see where they stand against one of the best teams in the State. The Hawks game plan was simple: control the ball offensively with some long, sustained drives chewing up the clock and keeping the Macs high powered offense on the sidelines.
The Blackhawk offense did a good job of putting together some solid drives as they had five possessions that had 10 or more plays. What they weren’t able to do, however, was finish. A credit to the Macs, as their speed and pursuit took away some plays that could have gone the distance. Talon Mueller was the workhorse for the Hawks as he had 29 carries for 123 yards with Clay Mueller contributing another 53 on 16 carries.
On the flip side of that, the McDonnell offense was all about the big play as they lit up the scoreboard on pass plays of 27, 18, and 9 yards finishing with over 200 passing yards. Tack on another 63-yard run for a score and that was all the big plays they needed to solidify the win.
The Blackhawks record is now 2-2 for the season with a big game against their arch rival the Thorp Cardinals coming up on Friday night. It is Homecoming week at Owen-Withee and the longstanding battle for the “CAN” is also at stake! Come on out and be a part of the 2025 Homecoming celebration! Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
