It’s play-off time and it becomes very hard not to get caught up in the excitement and urgency that the play-offs bring with it. The Owen-Withee Blackhawks hosted the Port Edwards Blackhawks on Saturday afternoon, in what turned out to be a beautiful day for football. There’s no question that the level of football within conferences around the state is much different than what we are used to in our own conference. The lack of physicality and toughness gets exposed in a hurry if you are not used to playing that brand of football. That was certainly the case, as your Owen-Withee Blackhawks completely dominated Port Edwards in a lopsided 72-20 Level I play-off win.
Once again, it was the offensive line that took control of the game from the onset, allowing the Mueller boys to run wild. Talon finished the day with 193 yards on 12 carries while Clay added 129 yards on 8 carries. The Blackhawks scored on each of its six first half possessions, with the offensive line carving out some huge holes for the backs to run through. Combine that with Clay’s 82-yard pick six and his 77-yard kick-off return for a touchdown and the Hawks had a commanding 58 -14 lead at the intermission.
The second half allowed the Hawks to get everyone into the game and give them some play-off experience. The Hawks added two more scores in the third quarter on runs by Talon and Troy Sherwood to round out the scoring for the Blackhawks.
The Blackhawks will travel to Wisconsin Rapids in Level II of the play-offs to take on the Assumption Royals for a 1:00 p.m. game on Saturday afternoon. That game will feature a rematch of a week five game that will give the Hawks the opportunity for revenge. Come be a part of the play-off excitement!
