In a tough game versus a tough opponent the Blackhawks continued to fight throughout the night on both ends, but came up short against the Prentice Buccaneers on Friday night losing 68-59. The loss ended the Blackhawks season with a 19-7 overall record.
The Blackhawks faced a tough Prentice defense and were able to connect on a few open looks with Dominic Sherwood knocking in two three-pointers in the first half, along with Colin Fritz and Sam Wells each adding one also. The Hawks trailed by four or six points throughout the half as Mason Gay and Jack Wendler helped in the scoring column by each adding four in the half. The Buccaneers however led at the half 35-28.
More tough defense and scrappy offense by both teams in the second half. The Blackhawks continued to battle and continually go with two points, but were unable to grab the lead back. Sherwood had a big half for the Hawks scoring 12 points in the second half. Fritz connected on another three, but the Hawks who rallied late to get it within three, weren't able to pull off the victory.
The Blackhawks made 6 three-pointers and Prentice hit on 7, but the Buccaneers held the advantage on the free throw line shooting 15-22, compared to the Blackhawks' 9-11.
Box Score: Sherwood 20, Fritz 10, Gay 8, Wendler 8, Wells 7, Poehler 6.
Coach's Comments
Tough loss for all of us and when you are in tournament play, one bad game ends your season. We had a great season overcoming many obstacles, from injuries to sickness to scheduling, the guys just played with heart. I cannot say enough about this team, very unselfish as they always cheered each other on, no egos or drama on this team. They always played hard and had so many expectations for each other.
I am proud of our seniors also: Mason Gay, Dominic Sherwood Colin Fritz, Brett Baehr, Carter Lindgren and Mathew Wilson. Each of them brought something special to the team and lead in so many ways, that they continue to have high expectations, that is what the program is about. Great role models and I thank them all.
Thank you to all the fans, parents, and community businesses that cheered for us and helped us throughout the season.
