Coming off a Monday win 22-3 against Alma Center and Tuesday loss 16-0 to Columbus Catholic, the Owen-Withee Blackhawks varsity softball team battled back with an 18-8 finish against Neillsville Friday, bringing their record to 1-5-0 overall. Blackhawks head coach Zach Feind shared more on Friday’s game after the score tally.

“I thought the way we battled back was good to see,” he said. “Earlier this season we have gotten down and kind of quit on ourselves.”

As to how things went Friday, Coach Feind said it could have been a different game.

“We battled back and got into the game,” he said of starting down in the first. “Obviously if we did not spot them 10 runs in the first inning it may be a different game. Had a huge double by Isabella Lewien with the bases loaded to keep our momentum. We just have to make our defensive plays. We are hitting the ball but need to stop making errors and throwing the ball around if we want to continue to compete in games.”

The Blackhawks next play against Colby/Abbotsford in a double header Tuesday April 30 at Colby High School. Game start is 4:00 p.m.
