Blackhawks lose at Loyal
The Blackhawks played at Loyal in a conference game in which their offense couldn't generate enough points to match the Greyhounds as the Hounds won by a final score of 67-39.
The Hawks had good shots early, but couldn't get anything to fall as they fell behind 7-0. A fastbreak pass from Talon Mueller to Colton Paczkowski got them on the board. A hoop by Mueller and another from Winston Poehler continued to keep pace with the Hounds. Jack Wendler and Poehler would account for 12 of the Hawks 16 first half points as they trailed to the hot-shooting Hounds 35-16 at the half.
The Blackhawks continued to fight their way back in the second half playing at a better tempo and moving the ball, while also attacking the rim. An early hoop by Paczkowski and free throws by Preston Fritz and Isaiah Pyrchalla cut into the lead as did a Fritz three. Wendler scored six points in the post for the Hawks in the half but the Hounds controlled the boards and the game the rest of the way getting the 67-39 victory.
The Blackhawks only had eight turnovers for the game, but their own cold shooting did them in.
Box Score: Jack Wendler 10 pts, 6 rebs, 2 blks; Poehler 10 pts, 6 rebs, 2 stls, 3 blks; Paczkowski 7 pts, 2 stls; Fritz 6 pts; Clay Mueller 2 pts; Talon Mueller 2 pts, 3 asts; Pyrchalla 2 pts, 2 asts.

I thought that our defense was tough at times as they hit some defended shots, but we did not do a good job of keeping them off the boards. We had better tempo the second half and set better screens as we will work on sharpening up these aspects of the game.

The Blackhawks went on the road again on Thursday to play the Greenwood Indians and came away victorious, 70-27.
The Blackhawks got contributions from everyone on offense which included four players in double digit scoring. A late Colton Paczkowski three followed by a Steven Negron drive and hoop with a Tegan Treankler lay-in finished the scoring for the Blackhawks, winning 70-27.

The guys came out and really worked on a few things that we needed to focus on as they moved the ball well, hence the balanced scoring. We kept the pressure on them in order to help get more opportunities on offense. Nice to see balanced scoring and 15 assists. On a personal note, it was nice to see senior Sam Wells back on the court. He has worked extremely hard on his therapy after suffering a torn ACL in the second football game this year. Not too many people have seen the countless hours he has put in to make it back for the season. His teammates and coaches are proud of him.
