Everything is green and growing. That includes lawns and dandelions, and thistles. I don’t know why I put out thistle seed for the birds last year. They sure did plant a lot of it. Perennials are coming up in flower beds. I tried to do a little weeding this past weekend. Because of my shoulder issues, I didn’t accomplish much, but at least my strawberries are no longer buried in quack grass. They already have blossoms on them, so there should be berries by June. Hopefully, I will get to eat them instead of the birds. I’ve had fairly good luck with that by hiding them next to the deck away from the bird feeders. The honey berries have blossoms too. So it would be nice if we don’t get a late freeze that kills everything.

I also gave in and bought a hanging basket. Everything is coming up, but not much is blooming yet, and I needed a little color to brighten up the place. The first windchime went out for the year too. I have windchimes out all year because I love the sound, but some are too delicate to stay out through the winter snowing and blowing.

I’ve also seen buds on the lilacs in the area. That means everything will be smelling wonderful soon.

The orioles are back and have been happily enjoying the feeder for about a week now. I put the hummingbird feeder out too. I haven’t seen any hummers, but the feeder is getting empty. Just a reminder to everyone that likes to watch hummingbirds and feed them, they don’t need the red dye. Just mix one part sugar to four parts water and they will be happy.

My favorite season of the year is still autumn, but there is something about this time of year when everything is coming back to life that just puts a smile on my face.

Happy Spring! Happy Gardening! Happy Birdwatching! Don’t forget to stop and smell the roses.
