Owen-Withee volleyball is a few games in already. On Thursday, August 29 the girls made a short trip over to Thorp to compete in their Triangular. They faced off against Thorp and Gilman in games of three sets. Unfortunately, they lost both games 0-2. At our home Quad, the girls faced off against three teams including Greenwood, Rib Lake, and Flambeau. They won the first game against Greenwood, 2-0, and the same with the second game against Flambeau. Unfortunately, they lost the last match against Rib Lake 0-2. Bringing their team record to 2-3.
The Owen-Withee Girls Volleyball team faced off against the Athens Bluejays. This marked the girl's first regular season game of best of 5 sets. The Bluejays were coming off a senior-heavy team last year where they ended their season in the Sectional finals with a loss to Columbus Catholic, graduating six seniors, four of whom were starters. This put our girls in a good position to beat the returning volleyball team. Now as I said before these games can go to the 5th set, which was done in this nail-biting game. After winning the first set they went down in the next 2 to bring the set score to 1-2. They then bounced back in the 4th set to make it 2-2. In the 5th set which goes to 15, they started strong, ahead 7-0 but after a little catch-up act from the Bluejays, they tightened the score up to 14-13 where our girls pushed through the pressure to take home a win with the set ending in a score of 15-13.
