January 12 the Blackhawks traveled to Edgar to take on the Wildcats and lost a thriller 43-42. Both teams came out and matched up well against each other. It was a defensive game as teams worked hard. Austin Yeager and Tegan Treankler hit threes from the outside and Aaron Sanchez scored 4 points in the post. The Hawks trailed 22-16 at the half.
It stayed tight throughout the second half with the Blackhawks making it a one-point game a number of times. Nolan Peterson hit a three-pointer from the corner to make it 34-33 with 2:45 to play. The Wildcats would then go up 43-38 with 15 seconds to play but Treankler would hit a pair of FTs to cut it to three. Edgar would miss a bonus FT with 13 seconds but the Hawks then made a quick 2-point shot. We couldn't steal the inbound pass with 2.5 seconds left. Game over.
I was proud of the team's effort. We had some chances but came up short.
Box Score: (42) Treankler 21, Peterson 7, Yeager 5, Dambeck 4, Sanchez 4; 3PT: (3) Yeager, Peterson, Treankler; FTS: 3-5 (60%).
