We have been blessed by God as a nation in the way our government has been designed through our constitution. In many countries now and through history there is usually a king or dictator who is in authority who makes the laws and has them enforced without any input from those who are in the country. Here in the United States we are asked to choose our leaders by voting. Our government is set up to have a balance of power between the president, the congress and senate, and the judges so that there would not be a dictator who would enforce laws only to his own personal liking.
In the Bible in Romans 13 it tells us that we are to be subject to the government powers because it says that there is no power but of God. The powers that are there either in our country or another are ordained of God. The government officials are called ministers of God. Their duty is to punish evil and encourage good. We are to submit to them and any law they make including the paying of taxes and giving honor to whom it is due. If we resist against any of their laws, we are actually resisting the ordinance of God.
So again we are blessed to be part of a nation that can choose its leaders and through influence to our congressman or senator encourage the making of proper and right laws for our nation. When our country was first established in the 13 colonies and even into the expansion westward with the northern territories, which included Wisconsin, there were regulations that we were to choose leaders who were Christians and feared God and the Bible. Our founding fathers who were part of the writing and establishing of our constitution said that it would not work unless we continued as a people to believe in God. So our duty as a people is to turn back to our trust in God.
So with the upcoming election, it is our duty as a people to trust in God and carefully choose our leaders through voting. We need to research and find out where the different leaders stand on the important issues before our nation. One of the important issues is that of abortion and the abuse and murder of innocent children and where each candidate stands on these issues.
God has given us a promise in 2 Chronicles 7:15 that if we will humble ourselves in prayer and seek God’s face, and if we will turn from evil ways, that God will hear from heaven and will forgive our sin and heal our land. Ultimately our country depends on us as individual citizens. If we as a people do evil, God will allow us to have evil leaders as a form of judgment upon us. However, if we will turn back to God, He will give us leaders who will respect that which is right.
So with the upcoming election, we are encouraged to pray for our nation and make sure to vote for the leader who will stand for righteousness. May God bless you and may God bless America!
