Dan Blastic and daughter Brittany Blastic celebrated the grand opening and ribbon cutting of their new restaurant Hog Cabin Bar-B-Que located on Hwy 73 just north of Greenwood. Welcoming the new owners and offering gifts and wishes for success were representatives from the Clark County Economic Development Corporation and Tourism Bureau, Sheila Nyberg, Nancy Amacher and Peter Kaz, Chairman of the Township of Warner John Larson, Greenwood Mayor David Hansen, representatives from the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, and from a local bank. Owner Dan was then given the podium to share his story.
“My daughter and I started the barbecue catering a long time ago, I bought my first smoker on closeout from Home Depot. It took me a long time; I tell you the first piece of meat that I made the dog wouldn’t eat it. It was terrible. It took a long time, but during that process, I kept trying, and you know, between my daughter, my son, with the sauces, and the rest of the family, all their inputs and everything is how we came up with what we do now. The sauces are sweet sauces because of my daughter. The sassy sauce is because of my son,” Dan joked. “But the sauces are homemade. Everything we put into this place…it’s just a labor of love, you know, allowing us into this community, everybody that we met has just been terrific.”
He went on to say how he liked the small town living as he was originally from Milwaukee and then moved to Arizona. He said it’s great to be in the Greenwood area although he teased that it may be tough getting used to the snow again.
“I don't know that we're really just a supper club anymore,” Dan said. “What we really do is the barbecue. We have a fantastic chef on hand too. He does Mexican creations on Thursday nights. We do everything, sandwiches, the catering, whether it's in-house or private parties, we've done weddings…It’s just, it's fantastic that you're allowing us to live all our dreams here and I want to put this place on the map. I love this community, but we're starting to draw from all over. People are letting us know they're from Eau Claire, La Crosse. We've had people from Madison and all over.”
Several people in attendance that evening commented that the food was delicious and in particular - the BBQ brisket, steaks and broasted chicken. Dan also is taking part in the Angel Tree project and selling raffle tickets to help with community projects. Next summer he plans to update the exterior of the building to compliment the beautiful interior.
