Two Owen-Withee athletes were honored at the recent Cloverbelt Scholar Athlete banquet Wednesday, April 15 at Regis High School in Eau Claire. Owen-Withee’s own Madi Mueller and Jack Wendler were among the 33 athletes honored from across the Cloverbelt.
Cloverbelt scholar athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, with participation in athletic and academic leadership weighed in the selection process. Scholar athletes are seniors, with juniors considered if there are no senior candidates. Athlete names for nomination are submitted upon request to the principal of the school hosting the event.
Owen-Withee girls varsity basketball coach Josh Jalling shared more on Mueller.
“Madi was definitely deserving of the scholar athlete award,” he said. “She was an outstanding athlete in three sports in her 4-year high school career. Not only that but she did it while being a great student in the classroom. The balance of high-level athletics and academics is a tough thing to do, Madi showed hard work and discipline on and off the court. She led her basketball team to three regional championships and one state appearance. All while she maintained a high GPA. She is a great leader and has great character. Madi has positively influenced the school in many ways. Congratulations! Well deserved.”
Owen-Withee varsity football coach Terry Laube shared more on Wendler.
“It was a real honor and privilege for my wife and I to accompany Jack to the Conference Scholar Athlete Banquet!” he said. “Each one of the athletes representing their schools and communities were the best of the best academically and athletically! Jack has been a three-sport athlete his entire high school career excelling in Football garnering All-Conference, All-Region, and All-State recognition and will be playing in the 8-man All-Star game in July! Jack also received All-Conference recognition in basketball and was a Sectional participant in golf last Spring! Jack has been an outstanding student athlete but more importantly a great leader within our school and community!”
