Leah Simenson is headed to State!
Simenson (24-10) finished in second place for the 132-pound weight class with a win by major decision (MD 8-0) over Addison Clark (39-6) of Merrill in the second place match.
Also competing in sectionals at DC Everest was Abigail Zaczcurynski (7-7), who made it to sectionals after starting just weeks ago before falling to Lizzy Delzer (30-21) of Bonduel.
Simenson’s path to victory at sectionals saw her win by fall (Fall 3:16) over RaeAnn Summers (17-9) of Menominee Nation with a match score of 16-4, before falling to Portia Hah (41-8) of Southern Door with a match score of 2-16.
Facing Nevaeh Walters (36-10) of Stanley-Boyd next, Simenson won by fall (Fall 3:47) with a match score of 10-4. Advancing to the second place match against Addison Clark of Merrill, Simenson came out on top to punch her ticket to state.
"I was very happy with Sectionals," Thorp/Owen-Withee Coach Scott Shilts said of the results. " Leah will wrestle with the first session on Thursday which starts at 2 p.m. I don't have an exact wrestle time yet."
Now on to State, Simenson wrestles at the Kohl Center Thursday, February 26. Tickets are reportedly sold out.
