On February 18 the JV Hawks defeated the Loyal Greyhounds 35-33. Talon Mueller had the hot hand in the first half, knocking down 4 threes, scoring 14 points. Along with Colton Paczkowski nailing a three, the Blackhawks led 17-11 at the half. Our defense also played well, getting four first half steals and rebounding well.
Coming out the second half, the Hawks still maintained a 26-22 lead with 8:43 to play. On offense the guys took care of the ball, having only 7 turnovers for the game. Preston Fritz took over on offense, scoring 13 points in the half. The Greyhounds would tie the game at 33 with 25 seconds left. Steve Negron would then make a nice post move for the Hawks, but his shot rolled out. After a Loyal timeout with 9.8 seconds left, the Greyhounds took it out midcourt. The Greyhounds drove it hard, but Austin Yeager stole the ball and threw it up the court to Talon Mueller who, with a defender in his face, took a running 10-foot shot off the board which fell through as the horn went off. It was a big game-winning shot and a big win for us. Great job by all!
