When you hear of an athlete competing at a national level, you may not picture a fifth grader, but Emily Nolt is doing just that! This week she will be traveling to Louisville, Kentucky to compete against elementary archers from all over the eastern half of the country. She qualified individually in the Bullseye and 3D tournament by placing 5th in Elementary Girls Bullseye and 4th in Elementary Girls 3D. Emily answered some questions about archery and the upcoming tournament.
What made you start archery? My dad did archery too. I also just wanted to join something new and it sounded very fun. I did hear my friends say they were going to do archery so I wanted to do it even more.
Do you prefer shooting 3D or bullseye archery? I like doing bullseye more because it's funner and I don't have to remember to move the quiver so much like I have to with 3D.
What is your secret to consistent shooting? I try to be as coachable as I can. I don't let one arrow mess me up.
What are you most excited for at the national tournament? I am excited about shooting at the tournament. I am also excited about looking at vendors.
What advice would you have for someone who might want to join archery? Don't let your arrows get the best of you. Always try to be happy. :)
We are very proud of Emily and wish her luck at the NASP U.S. Eastern Nationals!
