The Owen-Withee Blackhawk Archery 3D and Bullseye teams made the trek to Louisville, Kentucky for the NASP Eastern National Tournament that ran May 8-10 at the Kentucky Exposition Center. The archers ranged from 4th grade through seniors in high school. This larger-than-life tournament had 6,710 archers shooting IBO 3D. Those archers were from 31 states and represented 412 teams. Seventeen of those archers were from Owen-Withee. The Owen-Withee 3D archery team qualified for the Open Championship in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. There was one archer who qualified for the Open Championship as an individual: Maggie Ebert with a score of 279. She is ranked 64 out of 1,221 middle school girls.
For NASP Bullseye there were 14,972 archers from 33 states representing 720 teams. Twenty-three of those archers were from Owen-Withee. The Bullseye team missed qualifying for the Open Championship by only 17 points; however, three elementary archers qualified for the Open Championship as individuals: Gavin Westaby with a score of 255, McKenzie Wilson with a score of 257, and Jacob Nelson with a score of 270.
It was an amazing experience for children and families of our small community to travel to such a huge city, and surreal to see our archers shoot simultaneously with hundreds of other archers from all around the eastern United States. The archers are grateful to all their coaches for another great season, and for all the support they have received from the Owen-Withee community
