The Owen-Withee Girls basketball team are officially regional champs!
Starting the postseason playoffs with a 17-7 overall record, the Blackhawks gained three more wins. Taking on Greenwood/Granton Tuesday, February 24 at Owen-Withee, they came away with a 40-27 victory. Advancing to face Loyal on Friday, February 27, they defeated the Greyhounds 50-42. Facing New Auburn Saturday, February 28 at New Auburn, they came away with a 31-27 victory.
Owen-Withee girls varsity basketball head coach Josh Jalling shared more after the game.
“This was a huge win for the girls,” he said “Having to go on the road and get a win on their home court was a very tough task. The team was very determined and when our backs were against the wall the girls stuck together. They executed in high pressure moments. Our senior lead experience was the key to Saturday’s championship. Very proud of the girls. I also want to thank our fans for giving us the edge in the last two games. We needed every ounce of the energy you gave us.”
The Blackhawks now play Eleva-Strum on Thursday, March 5 at Altoona, with game start of 7:00 p.m. The winner from Thursday advances to the sectional championship Saturday, March 7 at Somerset, with game start Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
