One year ago, these two programs battled it out for second place in the conference and a spot to play in the Saturday crossover game. The Greenwood Indians entered this game 1-2 after a blowout loss to an outstanding Neillsville team. The Lady Hawks on the other hand come into the game with a 3-0 record, their best start in over a decade. The girls got out to an early start with some hot shooting from across the board. They entered the locker room up 26-13. In the second half the girls were able to extend their lead to 42-20. However, the Indians fired back and went on a huge run making the score 53-46 with 1:45 left on the clock. The Hawks were able to weather the storm and get the win 61-46. Geneva Capetillo scored 22 points with 6 made three-pointers to help the girls advance to 4-0.
Next the Blackhawk girls faced off in a Cloverbelt vs. Marawood non-conference matchup, as they took on the Bluejays of Athens. The first half was quite slow for the Hawks as they allowed the Bluejays to gain the lead early, leading 17-11 with eight minutes left in the half. That is when Coach Jalling got the girls fired up to go on a 10-3 run to close out the half. In the second half the girls looked like a whole new team as they went on a 22-0 run out of the break. This allowed Coach Jalling to mix up the rotation to gain depth in the lineup. Kendall Weiler had 22 points to lead the Blackhawks to a 61-40 victory and a 5-0 start in the season.
