The Owen-Withee Varsity Girls basketball team faced off against the Stanley Boyd Orioles in a thriller game on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving break. Competing against a higher-division team always makes for a good game especially when it results in a win. The girls took the second step on the ladder this past week with a big win of 43-30 over the Orioles, then spent Thanksgiving break celebrating a good start to an even better season. They got back to work Friday evening with a practice and began preparing for their first Conference match-up against the Gilman Pirates on December 3.
The team took down the Pirates in a huge win after beating them a total of three times last season. Each game getting closer and closer has created an even bigger meaning behind this game for both teams. The Hawks are looking to make this a 4-game win streak for the matchup between Owen-Withee and the Gilman girls basketball team. Gilman was looking to beat the team that kicked them out of the playoffs the year prior. As it is now a year later and both teams lost important seniors, the game could have gone either way. However, right from the tip-off the Hawks went up 22-0 to create a lead that kept growing throughout the game.
At the end of the night, the girls took home a very comfortable win of 60-21, to give them their third win of the season.
