O-W Lady Hawks keep their perfect record with a win over Spencer

The Owen-Withee Girls Basketball team have proved to everyone that this year will be just as successful, if not more successful, than last year. With only losing two seniors, the girls returned four out of five of their regular starters. They have dominant players from both the senior and junior class including Geneva Capetillo, Kendall Weiler, Ellie Petersen, Madilyn Mueller, and Kayla Rasmussen. They are all puzzle pieces to what has made the girls have such success so far. The girls decided to take a huge step at the start of this season with a 6-0 run. This puts them tied for #1 in the conference with Neillsville. Not only have they been just winning games, but they are absolutely sweeping every single team. These big wins aren’t by accident. They have Geneva Capetillo leading with an average of 14.5 points per game and Madi Mueller with 10.2 points per game. They also have Kendall Weiler who shows up in the paint averaging 5.5 rebounds per game. This was all going to be important when playing Spencer at the Hawk’s Nest. Spencer was right behind us in conference wins, being 2-1 with a loss to Columbus who we had previously crushed the week before. Autumn Davis is their team leader in points and assists and is second in rebounds. She was definitely a threat and someone for us to look out for on the court.

In the first half, the Lady Hawks came out with a bang. Ellie Petersen had two bunnies to get the first four points of the game. The Rockets scored on a free throw, but the Hawks defense kept them at 1 point for five minutes straight. After that, Spencer was finally trying to fight back and found a way to score. On the other end, the Hawks were still up but got stuck at 21 points for six minutes. They were struggling to score for a little bit and making silly mistakes. The first half ended with a score of 25-11. They were winning, but they were looking for more in the second half.

The Rockets had the first possession of the ball and the Hawks kept them from scoring for a minute and a half. The Rockets finally got a free throw in but the Hawks decided to copy what they did in the first half. This time they kept the Rockets from scoring for seven minutes and 30 seconds. During that time the ladies found ways to score on the inside and outside putting the score at 36-15. After that, the Hawks were having a time in the paint gathering foul after foul. Not only were they drawing in fouls, but they were doing good at the line and making their free throws. In the last six minutes, both teams scored 9 more points to end the game 50-30. This put the Lady Hawks at 7-0 keeping their perfect record alive.
