O-W School Board votes to try for referendum passage again in November

The Owen-Withee School Board held a special meeting on July 22 to discuss holding another referendum in November, since the referendum did not pass at the spring election. The meeting was short, only lasting about 20 minutes.

Before doing that, they rescinded a motion from their previous meeting in regard to transferring yearend funds to Fund 46. Funds will be transferred to Fund 10 instead as Fund 46 can only be used for certain items.

The board approved a resolution authorizing the school district to exceed the revenue limit by $500,000 per year for three years for non-recurring purposes. They then approved a resolution to go to referendum for approval of exceeding the revenue limit by $500,000 per year for three years. The previous referendum was for $800,000 per year for four years.

The board was also given direction on what they can and can’t do to promote the referendum. They can do mailings that are informational. Board members can support the referendum as individuals but the district can’t. More information about the referendum will be provided to taxpayers and residents of the district before the election.

The board also went into closed session for about 10 minutes before approving Dan Abramczak as the head baseball coach for the co-op with Thorp.
