Five members of the Owen-Withee Track Team were sent off in style as the O-W-C Fire trucks, sirens blaring, escorted them out of town to compete at the State Track & Field Competition at U-W LaCrosse.

On Friday, May 31, the 4x100 relay team of Mason Gay, Brandon Geldernick, Dominic Sherwood and Vincent Henke placed 16th in their heat with a time of 45.13. The same team of tracksters placed a bit higher that day in the 4x200 crossing the line 11th with a time of 1.33.17. Both relays came short of qualifying for finals.

On Saturday, due to Mason getting injured the day before, only Colton Paczkowski, competed in the 800m dash and placed 11th with a time of 2:00.49.

Track coach Caleb Green shared some thoughts after the meet was over.

“Overall, our performances this weekend were very exciting. Our relay teams put together two of their best times they ran all season. The handoffs were as crisp as they have been and the boys came ready to compete with the best from around the state. In the 800m run, Colton ran a great time and set his new personal best, coming up just shy of the school record. He had a great day though and is poised and ready for a big year next spring. Unfortunately, Mason tweaked an injury running the relays Friday and was unable to run the 800. At the end of the day, it was a great experience for our athletes and the support from the community was amazing.”

Head Coach Albert Goerlitz was impressed by the boys’ performance. “They ran some of their best times in the season,” said Goerlitz. “They definitely ran faster with faster competition. They set some PRs, overall did a very, very nice job.”
