Starting their season March 19 against Thorp before a series of postponements and cancellations, the Owen-Withee Blackhawks are back at it, with games against Cadott and Cornell/Lake Holcombe this past week.
With Thursday’s game ending 16 -1 in the Hornet’s favor and Friday’s game against the Knights finishing 13 - 1, Blackhawks head coach Zach Feind shared more on how the season has been going.
“We have started out 0-3, but each game there have been some improvements so that is what I am most happy with,” Feind said. “We cut our strikeouts from 8 in the first game, 4 in the second and only 2 in our latest game.
As to individual players and experience, Coach Feind said the team has two seniors, Reina Arndt and Carmin Moser, both four year veterans with Honorable Mention on All Conference. Feind said Ardnt has gone 3-4 with a double and a stolen base in the last two games, while sophomore Lilli Stinson has gone 2-5 with a double and two stolen bases in the last two games.
“We are hitting the ball hard just not finding very many holes right now,” Feind said. “Defensively we have been a step behind to start the season so we will continue to work on that and make improvements.”
The Blackhawks play next against Neillsville at Owen-Withee Thursday, April 18. Game start is 5:00 p.m.
