Owen celebrates a Centennial Saturday

Saturday, July 19 was a great day for celebration in the City of Owen. The day began with the Farmers Market as it does every Saturday.
At 1 p.m., the Gerald Frese Memorial Horse Pull was at the north end of Mill Pond Park. The event included food and beverages as well as some great teams of horses.
Also, beginning at 1 p.m., the Owen Public Library hosted three authors with local ties. Mike McCabe, a 1978 graduate of Owen-Withee High School had the chance to visit with some classmates who came to check out his book. Jodie Swanson, a 1991 graduate of O-W High School, had a chance to meet with one of her teacher mentors from school, Deb Smith. Stephen Jarocki was also present with his new book. The event was supposed to last two hours, but people were still visiting at 4 p.m.
The Centennial Committee hosted a time to pack a new time capsule at 5 p.m. at Mill Pond Park. The first Miss Owen, Kathy (Zukowski) Pszeniczny helped along with former O-W Ambassador Sully Poehler and current O-W Ambassador Brooke Geiger. Phil Greschner emceed the event.
Beginning at 6 p.m., Owen native Wally Pietrzen and his Marshall Star Band entertained the crowd. Food and beverages were available for purchase and everyone enjoyed a good time.
The evening ended with fireworks by Big Daddy’s Fireworks at 10 p.m., after which a very tired crew cleaned up the concession stand before going home.
Join the Centennial Committee for their next event on August 16, which will be a Lumberjack Show. The Owen Main Street Car Show will also be that day.
